Flowers in Snowy Spring
While the sleet and snow and popping hail has descended, we are officially in "Spring." I remember Springs and Easter in South Carolina when the air was warm, you didn't freeze while wearing Easter clothes, and the Spring flowers were in full bloom (how I loved "decorating the cross" on Easter morning with armfuls of azaleas, dogwood, and other Springtime flowers pulled straight from our yards). Here, we have layers of snow daily and more hail and ice than I've ever seen (or heard!) so many days in a row. The first shoots of our daffodils (which Granddad and Liliana planted last Fall in our front yard) have just appeared but are not close to blooming.
But Grandma gave the girls a ray of sunshine amidst the whiteness of the snow: vibrant, beautiful Spring flowers which now adorn our festive kitchen windowsill (and sit within aW edgwood vase that used to be their great-grandmother's) and remind us that the beauty of Spring is here, even as we enjoy the beauty of winter outside. Plus, Granddad gave the girls some daffodil cuttings to watch bloom, so Spring has officially arrived, even if the weather doesn't show it!
